Frequently asked questions

Why do forms reject my photo even after normal compression?

Because most compressors shrink by a percentage, not to a limit. A '70% smaller' 3MB photo is still 900KB. This tool works backwards from the portal's exact KB ceiling instead.

Will a 20KB passport photo still look acceptable?

Yes at passport size (approx 413×531px), 20–50KB JPG looks perfectly fine for forms. Crop tightly first with our Passport Photo Maker for best results.

JPG, WebP or PNG for forms?

JPG — virtually every portal accepts it and it compresses photos best. Choose PNG only if the form demands it; PNG fits by reducing dimensions, so keep an eye on sharpness.

The tool says 'smallest possible' instead of fitting — why?

Extremely tiny targets on huge detailed images hit a physical floor. Crop out empty margins, or accept slightly smaller dimensions; the message always tells you honestly rather than pretending.
